Route 27 traffic shifts planned

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)has announced alternating traffic on Route 27 to allow for a traffic shift on the Carter’s Brook and Ten Mile Run Tributary culvert replacements project in Franklin, Somerset County and South Brunswick, Middlesex County.From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Thursday, May 11, NJDOT’s contractorwill alternate traffic on Route 27 at Carter’s Brook Bridge, in order to place concrete barriers, restripe and shift Route 27 northbound traffic to the right onto the completed portion of the new shoulder for the next stage in construction. The shift in traffic will remain in place for several months to allow for bridge work to continue in the center work zone.Route 27 southbound will not be changed and will remain on the temporary bridge so that the center portion of the culvert bridge can be constructed. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the bridge during construction.Theproject is expected to be completed by early 2018. Visit511nj.org.

New teacher pactatCentral

The Board of Education of Hunterdon Central Regional High School has reached an agreement with the Hunterdon Central Education Association (HCEA), on a four-year contract for teachers, support staff, and operations, effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2019. The contracts calls for annual increases: 2.5 percent in 2015-16, 2.6 percent in 2016-17, 2.7 percent in 2017-18 and 2.8 percent 2018-19.

Buffalo Watch aids rescue squad

Readington River Farm, 937 Route 523, Readington, will be hosting its 19th annual Buffalo Watch 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for the benefit of the Whitehouse Rescue Squad. The event will feature wagon ride tours tosee newborn buffalo calves. There will also be pony ridges, face painting, live music, wine tasting, antique and craft vendors, hot sauce experts, animals, Civil War re-enactors, food and more. Vandals damage Warren home

A home under construction on Liberty Corner Road in Warren suffered $40,000 in damage when someone one entered the structure and opened a second floor laundry water valve, police say.

Bias crime seminar in Hunterdon

The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and Prevention Resourceshosted the Bias Crime/Incident Training for Community Partners on May 4at Hunterdon Central High School. The training was presented by the state Attorney General’s Office, the New Jersey Division of the Criminal Justice, the County Prosecutor’s Association of New Jersey, the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, and the New Jersey Bias Crime Officers Association. More than 70 people attended the seminar that covered how to "Recognize, Respond to and Report a Bias Crime or Incident." Attendees included, law enforcement officers, educators, community leaders, faith based leaders, and community members. The course focused on identifying bias incidents on a local level, understanding the difference between a bias crime and bias incident, and the role of community outreach.

Man charged with stealing water

On May 3, North Plainfield police responded to a Prospect Street residence on a report that suspicious men were outside the home stealing buckets of water from the residence's water spout. A man was identified by police to have been involved and was found to have an outstanding warrant with Plainfield Municipal Court. He was arrested by North Plainfield police, charged with theft, posted bail and was released.

Man charged with stealingrazors

On May 7, Stop & Shop in Watchung reported a theft to police that took place on May 2. The suspect is described by police as a black male in his 30s who was wearing a dark jacket, dark jeans and a reflective vest when he allegedly stole $109 worth of razors from the grocery store. Police are investigating the incident.

YMCA hosts free water safety event

May is National Water Safety Month and the Hunterdon County YMCA will celebrate by holding its fourth National Learn to Swim Day Event on Saturday, May 20.
